In the summer of 2019, Roncalli Catholic partnered with EG Integrated, co-owned by alumni Bill (1978) and Tom (1980) Ervin, to refresh the brand and clearly define the values and charisms of the school. This brand refresh easily identifies the many benefits of being part of the Crimson Pride to interested parents and students. A special thanks to all the parents, students, alumni and friends of the school who helped us with this process by taking part in surveys and focus groups.
The Mission of Roncalli Catholic
Firmly and proudly rooted in the North Omaha community since its founding in 1974, Roncalli Catholic High School has prepared students for the real world through a faith-based, co-educational experience based on the traditions of the Notre Dame Sisters and the Christian Brothers. Whether students seek college-preparatory courses or an alternative career path, we offer innovative programs geared toward students with many abilities and talents.
OUR UNIQUE PATHS
Roncalli Catholic helps students face real-world challenges so they can learn to persevere with mental and moral strength – setting them on the right path to learn, grow and thrive in a diverse world. In addition to a full complement of AP, Honors and Dual Credit courses, Roncalli Catholic is the only Catholic school in the area to offer the nationally recognized Benilde Program, as well as the Career Academy and Health Sciences Career Academy. Roncalli Catholic helps each student uncover and discover their full potential, giving them the courage to follow the right path toward their unique futures.
College Prep Curriculum
As a college preparatory school, Roncalli Catholic students can choose from a variety of AP, Honors and Dual Credit courses that prepare students for the rigors of college academics, putting them on a path to a lifetime of success.
“The college-level courses that I was able to take at Roncalli Catholic were exceptional in the way that they challenged and prepared me for the next step of my education,” says 2019 alumna McKenna Murcek. “I took dual credit Biology which gave me a good idea of what to expect in a college course, allowing the transition between high school and college to be much easier and less stressful.”
The Benilde Program
The nationally recognized Benilde Program provides daily academic support for students who are able to cognitively adhere to a college preparatory curriculum but may have educational needs that can make it difficult for them to achieve their full potential on their own.
“Our son has been empowered to succeed academically, while his instructor monitors his progress,” says John and Karen Miller, parents of a student in his second year involved in the Benilde Program. “We have all grown spiritually as Benilde has been an answer to our prayers.”
“The number one benefit I’ve seen students gain from the program is confidence in themselves and in their academic success,” says Leah Critchfield, Benilde Program Director. “Once they’re able to realize how much they’re able to accomplish, the possibilities for them are endless. It also provides structure and routine and it gives them the skills necessary to be successful in their core courses. There’s a sophomore female that came to me as a freshman. She didn’t have a lot of confidence in herself or in her ability to be successful in the classroom. She really did a wonderful job of taking the skills and strategies that were taught to her and applying them. Today, she’s on honor roll, with all A’s and B’s. She knows what she’s capable of and she doesn’t accept anything less than an A or B in terms of her grades in the classroom. So it’s really exciting to see her doing so well.”
The Career Academy
The Career Academy in partnership with Metro Community College is designed to provide high school students with opportunities to explore a variety of career fields and get a jumpstart on their post-secondary education.
“The ability to offer the Career Academy to our students at Roncalli Catholic allows them to explore different avenues that may be a non-traditional post-secondary path that they didn’t know was open to them, or have the opportunity to explore their interest that may not be offered at a four-year university,” says Rachael Gandossy, School Counselor at Roncalli Catholic.
“The biggest lesson that I’ve learned through the Metro Career Academy is that police are a big part of society,” says Dylan Bridwell, Class 2020. Dylan has been enrolled in the Career Academy since September 2019 and is studying Criminal Justice alonside his brother Matthew, Class of 2020. “The value that it gives is, you can take something that you’re interested in through college courses and that gives you a chance to learn it through a college perspective while in high school and then use that once you graduate.”
The Health Sciences Career Academy
Partnering with CHI Immanuel, the new Health Sciences Career Academy offers real-world experience in a hospital setting giving students a chance to learn more about careers in the healthcare field.
“The Health Sciences Career Academy allows students a way to display the skill, knowledge, and theoretical practice they’ve learned in the classroom,” says Don Jensen, Program Director. “This valuable year-long internship presents them the opportunity to explore career pathways, giving them an edge in the job market by networking with professionals which may transition into a future job.”
“As a freshman, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and I kinda worried about my appearance and school as well as if I was gonna make any new friends,” says Mia Dolan, Class of 2020. “After talking with my oncologist and my nurse, I learned that the medical field is right for me so I can help kids that deal with the same disease I did and carry it on with me in the future. We got these badges, we clock in and we walk up to our assigned floor. We each pair up with a CNA and we’ll answer call lights if we need to. I’ve met a lot of great people along the way and gained some great experiences at the Health Sciences Career Academy that will help me with my career in the future.”
Above all, at Roncalli Catholic we help our students find their True North by putting Christ at the forefront of all we do, with trust, confidence and conviction. We live in communion with one another and serve our global community with love and compassion.
