Roncalli Catholic High School is a co-ed college preparatory school founded in 1974 on the traditions of the Notre Dame Sisters and the Christian Brothers. We are firmly and proudly rooted in the North Omaha community, and are dedicated to uncovering and discovering our students’ full potential giving them the courage to follow the right path toward their unique futures.
Whether it’s college or an alternative career path, we prepare our students for the real world, offering a wide range of classes and programs such as Honors and Advancement Placement courses as well as innovative learning opportunities like the Benilde Program and the Career and Healthcare academies.
The Benilde Program is an innovative, nationally recognized program that provides daily academic support for students who are able to cognitively adhere to a college preparatory curriculum but may have educational needs that can make it difficult for them to achieve their full potential on their own. The philosophy of the Benilde Program is that students attend the same classes, participate in the same clubs and extra-curricular activities and meet the same requirements as their peers. To help them succeed, the Benilde instructor will promote academic and self-advocacy skills, which will increase the probability of success. The students involved in the Benilde Program are successful because they attend a core class over the summer to lighten their academic workload, may take classes out of sequence, attend a daily Benilde class, learn advanced study skills, test-taking techniques, and other strategies for maximizing academic success. The ultimate goal of the Benilde Program is to teach each student how they best learn so that they are successful in college and beyond.
The Career Academy in partnership with Metro Community College is designed to provide high school students with opportunities to explore career fields and get a jumpstart on their post-secondary education. Roncalli Catholic was the first college preparatory school in Omaha to introduce a Career Academy program to students. While the college preparatory curriculum at Roncalli Catholic prepares students to be successful at a four-year college or university, the school has a high demand for alternative educational and career opportunities for students. The program is open to junior or senior students who are interested in pursuing career fields such as nursing, civil engineering, theatre technology, architecture, welding, information technology, auto mechanics, and many others. Students can use this opportunity to gain credits towards an associate’s degree or certificate in these fields while still in high school. There are 22 academies to choose from featuring career fields in high demand areas, with a near 100 percent employment rate following completion of the academy program at Metro Community College.
Health Career Academy
In partnership with CHI Immanuel, our new Health Career Academy gives students opportunities to explore careers in the healthcare field. Seniors who have taken the required prerequisites and earn their C.N.A. certification over the summer receive valuable field experience at Immanuel Hospital every Monday through Thursday afternoon. On Fridays, students meet as a class to discuss their experiences. The Health Career Academy counts as four credits per semester and is considered an elective.
As a college-preparatory school, students can choose from nearly 40 AP, Honors and Dual Credit courses that prepare student for the rigors of college academics.
