The Roncalli Catholic Board of Directors has announced Ms. Ann O’Connor is retiring as President of Roncalli Catholic High School at the conclusion of the 2020-2021 school year.
Ms. O’Connor, an alumna of Roncalli Catholic High School, has served as President since July, 2015. Prior to her position as President, Ms. O’Connor worked 11 years at a nonprofit agency and 8 years as the Chief Deputy in charge of Douglas County Corrections. Ms. O’Connor served on the Board of Education at Roncalli Catholic High School from 2009 – 2014. She has a Master of Public Administration degree.
When Ms. O’Connor started, the school had a debt of nearly one million dollars. Thanks to her leadership and the assistance of many supportive benefactors there is no current debt, and an endowment of over $1,000,000 continues to provide needed financial support. Noteworthy highlights include the development of a President’s Giving Circle, a robust Annual Fund program, enhanced alumni relations and fund raising events.
Additionally, while maintaining a robust college prep curriculum, Ms. O’Connor has started three programs to more fully serve the students of the school. Those programs include the Benilde Program, a nationally recognized program for students with learning differences, the Career Academy with Metro Community College and the Health Sciences Career Academy in partnership with CHI Immanuel. Roncalli Catholic is the first Catholic high school in the area to provide these programs to students.
Ms. O’Connor has also completed several large capital projects, such as a new boiler system, driveway, flooring, lockers and a new elevator. There are plans to renovate the science labs next summer. She has been able to secure numerous grants for the next 3-5 years to support ongoing projects.
Mr. James Andrews, Chair of the Board of Directors, states that, “Roncalli Catholic High School is deeply indebted to Ms. O’Connor for her strong, focused, disciplined and visionary leadership. To call her a God-send is not too strong a statement to make.”
Mrs. Vickie Kauffold, Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Omaha, states “I am grateful for Ms. O’Connor’s dedication and commitment to the Roncalli Catholic High School Community.“
The formation of a search committee for Ms. O’Connor’s replacement is currently taking place, with announcements of further plans to follow.
I wanted to reach out to the Roncalli Catholic community with the formal announcement that I will step down as President effective June 30, 2021. This announcement comes at the same time I am formally announcing the news to our faculty and staff.
I am in my sixth year as President of Roncalli Catholic and I want to thank each of you for your support, prayers and sacrifices needed to make Roncalli Catholic a place to prepare our students to follow the right path toward their unique futures through Wisdom, Courage, and Faith. Students have always been the priority for every action and effort taken by our faculty and staff during my tenure.
There have been many successes throughout these past six years which are highlighted in the attached press release. From the addition of three successful new programs to upgrades to the facility to new marketing efforts, as well as the fact that Roncalli Catholic is the most financially stable it has ever been, there is much to celebrate. Additionally, there are several plans for the future to continue to carry Roncalli Catholic forward.
I know, as an alumna, Roncalli Catholic has been an important part of my life, and I believe it will continue to be important in the lives of the students and alumni for years to come. I am confident with your continued prayers and support that will be a certainty.
The formation of a search committee for my replacement is currently taking place, with announcements of further plans to follow.
Thank you for all you do for Roncalli Catholic. You are a blessing.
