No other team fought harder than the Crimson Pride during the Basketball State Championship game the first week of March, making history as the first team to go to overtime in all three games.
The players won 21 games in a row, are regular season conference champions, won the River Cities Conference tournament and sub-districts, became state qualifiers and the eventual State runner-up.
“I am extremely happy for them,” says J.J. Stoffel, coach for the varsity basketball team. “They worked so hard in the off season and it was a great builder off last season. I am most proud of the players giving their all and leaving everything on the court. They never quit and kept finding ways to get the job done.”
Jackson Dotzler, class of 2020, says their motivation went above winning, “it was about making the Roncalli community proud and playing for them.”
Dotzler says that even though they won 21 games in a row, they were still overlooked. He says that even through that feeling, they enjoyed every aspect of the season.
“Coach Stoffel always says to our team after practice, ‘We’re all in this together.’ And he doesn’t just mean our team, he means the entire
Roncalli community,” says Dotzler.
Mr. Stoffel sees the team building off this season. “There are a lot of players back that are going to put in the hard work to give us an opportunity to compete at state again.”
From the coaches and players we thank you for your support all year and Roll Pride!
