In Omaha, there are many “feeder” programs that help promote athletics at certain schools, but there are few like the one that we have here at Roncalli Catholic. The Junior Pride organization has not only helped with the growth and development of our athletic programs at RCHS, but also the growth and development of our school.
Founded in 2007, the Roncalli Catholic Junior Pride Organization’s mission is to offer the opportunity to participate in sponsored programs. By doing this, they are teaching young athletes in the organization about the importance of athletics and activities, as well as, guiding the student-athletes to succeed not only on the field but also in life. They also take pride in having coaches with good Christian and moral character to provide youth with direction to grow in the image of Christ.
Roncalli Catholic Senior three-sport athlete, Jack Dotzler associates a lot of his success and relationships in high school to the Junior Pride program, “I played Junior Pride Football for four years and basketball for a couple. It was a great experience getting to learn the ways of Roncalli Catholic and especially, the pillars that Roncalli Catholic Football was founded upon. It was also a great experience to get to know a bunch of the people that I know now.”
Junior Pride currently offers 8 sports for youth athletes in grades kindergarten to 8th grade they can participate in. Those sports include; tackle football, flag football, boys basketball, girls basketball, cross country, wrestling, baseball and trap shooting. In those sports alone, the Junior Pride has over 375 participants for the 2019-2020 season.
Not only is Junior Pride a sports organization but, they also help students uncover and discover their full potential by offering summer camps for kids. With a good portion of the camps being based around the athletics they offer, with the addition of soccer and weightlifting camps, they do have other options for kids including a STEAM camp, culinary camp, and a pottery camp.
Roncalli Catholic Senior Ryan Fenoglio feels that participating in Junior Pride helps students transition from grade school to high school, “Junior Pride gives a good introduction into how Roncalli Catholic operates as a school and within our athletic programs.”
The Junior Pride organization continues to grow daily and is always looking for new ways to get kids involved. In 2019-2020, they are looking to start a cheerleading program for girls to participate in. This is just one of the many ways that they continue to support the growth and development of Roncalli Catholic High School.
