Alumni Spotlight – John Andrews (Class of 1974)

Each month, Roncalli Catholic features one alumni from the community who showcases our school’s values. If you are interested in being featured in a future Alumni Spotlight, please contact Communications Coordinator Noah Johnson at njohnson@roncallicatholic.org.

What was your experience at Roncalli Catholic/Archbishop Rummel?

It was positive experience and I have made friendships to this day with teachers including, Mr. Schulter, and classmates.

What was life like after your time at Roncalli Catholic/Archbishop Rummel?

I attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Architecture. I married the love of my life Marge Bathen and had four children, Nick, Jonathan, Adam and Meg who all graduated from Roncalli Catholic.  I have seven grandchildren which I enjoy babysitting, watching them play sports and just watching them grow. I worked at Leo A Daly Co. for my entire career, 42 years. I have also been a member of St. Leo’s parish for 42 years.

How have you stayed connected to the Roncalli Catholic/Archbishop Rummel community?

I have had the privilege to provide architectural design services for the school on several projects.  I have also served as a board member and President of the board. I currently serve on the Facility Committee.

What has kept you connected to Roncalli Catholic/Archbishop Rummel?

One of the main reasons I have stayed connected to Roncalli Catholic is because I believe strongly in the importance of a faith-based education for our youth.

What are some values and lessons you have carried with you from your time at Roncalli Catholic/Archbishop Rummel?

In my four years at Archbishop Rummel/Roncalli, I developed into an outgoing person with self-confidence.  I like to tell people my moral compass started in grade school, then at Roncalli Catholic. Today, more than ever, we need compassion.

If you were speaking to a student or recent graduate, how would you recommend staying connected to the Roncalli Catholic community?

That you truly can achieve your dreams as I did and I was average student.  I worked hard to achieve my goal to become an architect and don’t forget to include being a Christian.

Do you know a graduate that should be featured in a future Alumni Spotlight?

We are always looking to showcase the success of our Roncalli Catholic alumni. If you have a story idea, please reach out to Communications Coordinator Noah Johnson at njohnson@roncallicatholic.org. Their story may be featured in a future newsletter!
